October was an interesting month. The Costa Mesa Gem and Mineral Show was held about the middle of the month. There was not a great showing of meteorite dealers as in the May version of the same show. But, there were a few individuals with meteorites. I got to spend a long time talking to Marvin Killgore of Southwest Meteorite Lab. He is usually so busy that there is no time to have a good conversation. But on Sunday morning there was not a lot of activity yet so we could chat awhile. I got a couple specimens from him of course. I have a low resistance to really nice meteorites.
Paul and I got away from town for a short vacation. The complete story of the trip is my article for the month. It was great to have some time off and to just relax. And it is always great to find something nice to add to my collection. I am now in the process of cutting the material and polishing it up. Not that I need a lot more stuff to keep me occupied but it will be there just in case I get bored. It is quite beautiful material and will offer many enjoyable hours of study under the microscope. After I get some thin sections made I will return with an article showing photos of those as well.
This month we have some nice surprises in store again for you. Be sure to see the interview with Michael Blood in the Meteorite Person of the Month column. And Paul has a beautifully illustrated article on tektite surfaces, the conclusion of a two parter. Remember the past magazines are in the back issues area. If you are just joining our magazine you can always catch up. We hope you enjoy it. jpt
