Some very interesting developments have recently occurred in the meteorite market. Highly rare material is becoming available at a significantly increasing rate. This includes both old witnessed falls and extremely rare types out of Africa.
Prices on this material is sometimes low, but other times what one would have expected several years ago. Rarely, if ever, is it higher than would be expected several years ago but it is definitely appearing in increasing regularity.
If I had to make a blanket statement, I would say most of the prices on the ultra rare NWA material (such as Bencubinites, Alcapulcoites, etc.) are substantially (in many instances, hundreds of percent) lower than prices of these types in many years while the prices of the old witnessed falls preceding our life times tend to be closer to what they were on the very rare occasions in years past they were briefly (if ever) available.
Whilst this is going on, the trend is continuing, whereby some witnessed falls during our lifetime (at least some of us), such as Hollbrook, have increased substantially, as others, such as Shikhote-Alin have decreased by three to five hundred percent.
Another apparent trend is far less focus on the more common material, such as the H5s, L5s and 6s unless they were unusual witnessed falls or hit something or the like.
This article May be short, but the fact is, that seems to pretty much be it for now.
Until next time, Happy Hunting! Michael
